Egyptian Drug Authority
(EDA)

The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) is the regulatory body responsible for the registration, licensing, inspection, and supervision of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and medical equipment in Egypt. Established by Law No. 151/2019, the EDA ensures that all health technologies meet safety and efficacy standards before they are approved for use in the market. It also sets public prices for new technologies and plays a critical role in the regulatory framework that supports the healthcare system.

Unified Procurement Authority
(UPA)

The Unified Procurement Authority (UPA) was created to streamline the procurement process for medical supplies and technologies across public healthcare entities. Established under Law No. 151/2019, the UPA aims to enhance the efficiency of procurement by negotiating prices and ensuring cost-effective purchasing of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment. The UPA is also responsible for conducting Health Technology Assessments (HTA) to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of health technologies and public health programs, which is essential for informed decision-making in healthcare.
